Dear Parents/Guardians of O.B. Whaley 4^th and 5^th Grade Students,

Because of strong community support for Measure H/EE, Evergreen Elementary School District is very pleased to offer incoming 5^th and 6^th grade students the opportunity to participate in an Instrumental Music Education Program at each of the elementary school sites for the 2020-2021 school year.

Band is an optional year-long commitment that will begin in mid-September and conclude in May. While your band teacher will work closely with classroom teachers, students are still responsible for any class work while participating in the band program. A variety of wind instruments will be taught during the school day for approximately 45 minutes per week. Students will have the opportunity to perform in concerts for their peers and family members at the conclusion of the program in May.

While students will receive a music textbook, there will be a limited number of district instruments available for use for Evergreen Elementary students. In order to ensure that all students who wish to participate are able to do so, students are encouraged to rent or purchase their own instrument at any of the fine music stores in the San Jose area. Instructor approval will be necessary for some band instruments.

Classes begin the week of September 21, 2020. The tentative schedule is as follows:
