From the Santa Clara County Office of Education

Last night, the Santa Clara County Board of Education, honored Evergreen School District as the first California Exemplary District in Santa Clara County.

"Every county in California was asked to identify and select one district for this prestigious award," said County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. "It gives me great pleasure to recognize Evergreen School District."

This Exemplary Districts Award celebrates the achievements of districts who have implemented model practices that have had a positive impact on student outcomes. Districts were required to have at least one school on the California Distinguished Schools list this year, Evergreen had two with Carolyn A. Clark and Tom Matsumoto elementaries.

"After a careful analysis of Local Control Accountability Plan goals, action, and services and data including performance reports, the Santa Clara County Office of Education identified Evergreen School District for this award because the District had the most detailed programs that also target social-emotional, English learners, and Parent Engagement," added Dewan.

"All of the District's eighteen schools have been California Distinguished schools; recognition of outstanding educational programs and practices," says County Board of Education Trustee, Claudia Rossi. "Evergreen offers full-day kindergarten as a strategy to help close achievement gaps, they have launched a parent university to support families, and have high stakeholder engagement."

On hand to receive the award were Assistant Superintendent, Dan Deguara and other district officials on behalf of Superintendent Kathy Gomez and the Evergreen School District.

"Programs like the California Exemplary District Award allow our county an opportunity to celebrate and collaborate. As educators, we are all members of one community, and together we can learn from one another and share our innovative practices and ultimately meet our vision transforming education within the county through leadership, service, and advocacy," added Dewan.
