O.B. Whaley is implementing a wonderful program for our students called Saturday Academy! Saturday Academy provides enrichment opportunities for all students while allowing our students to make-up missed days of attendance. Missed days of school also result in lost revenue to our schools. Saturday Academy allows us to recover lost learning as well as lost funding!

Gates on campus should be closed at all times to keep our students and staff safe. If you see one of our gates open, kindly help us close them. Parents, students have been taught that all visitors that are not part of our daily staff have a District badge or visitor's badge. Do not enter the campus unless you have checked-in at the office and have your visitor's badge. If you need to meet your child's teacher; please call or e-mail the teacher to schedule an appointment or schedule one with our front office. Thank you for ensuring the safety of our students!

Rewards and incentives in schools play a powerful role in influencing student's food choices and life-‐long eating habits. It is the intent of the Child Nutrition Services Department to not only provide nutritious meals at breakfast and lunch service but to act as a resource in nutrition education for teachers and parents. CNS recommends that teachers and parents use celebrations, rewards and incentives that do not undermine the health of students and/or reinforce unhealthful eating habits. Non-‐food rewards and incentives should be used as the first choice to encourage positive behavior (game supplies, pencils, erasers, stickers and other small school supplies instead of food). If food is used as a reward or part of a celebration, healthy choices with appropriate portion sizes are required (see attachment for ideas). Likewise classroom parties should also be limited during the school.

Our lost and found rack has been piling up. Please stop by our rack next to our cafe entrance to find items that your child has lost (clothing, lunch boxes, books, etc). Items not picked up will be donated at the end of every trimester (November, March, and June). Don't forget to check-in at the office!

You may have noticed the San Jose Police Department on campus. Please do not be alarmed. In response to recent mass shootings, the San Jose Police Department launched the Guardian Program. It is meant to put designated crews in position, at schools and public events, so they can be ready to respond during an attack. Guardian cars will be circling schools daily to keep our campuses safe. Thank you, City of San Jose and SJPD for this extra precaution!

Beginning Monday, October 29, 2018, the office staff will no longer call classrooms to inform students of snacks and/or lunches being dropped off in the office. Parents must ensure their child knows a snack or lunch will be delivered for them prior to leaving home in the morning. If your child fails to pick up his or her lunch from the office, he or she will receive a school lunch at the parent's expense. Unclaimed lunches or snacks can be picked up by the parent or child at the end of the school day.Click on the title for Spanish and Vietnamese translations.
