Hello Holly Oak Elementary Families!

I hope everyone has had a great summer despite the circumstances. As you've probably heard by now, we have been directed to start school with full Distance Learning due to the current state of COVID-19. I am reaching out to reassure you that although we are not able to welcome students physically back to school on August 19th, we are nonetheless eager to welcome students to our Distance Learning program!

Class Assignments Grades 1-6: Class assignments will be posted online on Wednesday, August 12th after 5:00pm on Parent Portal. You will need to know your login information to access your students class assignment. If you don't know your login information, please call the office at 408-270-4975 or email Corinna Diener at cdiener@eesd.org. As always, our teachers will be working collaborative grade level teams to ensure consistency and an equitable learning experience for our students. I assure you, they are eager and excited to get back to work and meet your students! Your child's teacher will reach out to you prior to August 19, to give you an idea of what to expect on the first day of school.

WiFi Hotspot Request: If you will be in need of a WiFi HotSpot device for distance learning, please contact Mr. Sanchez directly by email @ ksanchez@eesd.org. Once you send your request, it will be submitted to the district office.

Updates to School's Website: Our school website has been recently updated, we have included a Distance Learning tab that includes Frequently Asked Questions.

School Schedules: School schedules, by grade, will be sent out once they have been completed.

Parent Handbook: The Parent handbook will be uploaded to the school website and sent out to parents when completed.

Office Availability: The office is currently open by appointment only. Anything that can be handled via phone or email is strongly encouraged. Please know that when you visit the office we are following safety protocols:

• Visitors and school personnel must wear face masks.
• We have hand sanitizer and a box of masks
• Limit the number of visitors in/around the office to maintain 6 feet social distancing
• Before coming to the office, please self-screen with the guidelines attached - HERE
  
  

Student Engagement: We WILL have some fun, interactive things planned for the year - virtual challenges, spirit days, etc. I will be in touch and our office will update our school website http://hollyoak.eesd.org/ regularly beginning in August. We will send out a weekly parent newsletter called the Hawks Nest to inform you of everything going on each week.

Set a Positive Tone! As schools start to unveil their COVID-19 plans for fall - as parents, let's set the tone for the year for our kids. When they announce the plans, read them in private and discuss with your spouse alone. Then come back and tell your kids as positively as possible how the fall will go. Tell them how proud you are of them wanting to keep others safe and how much their teachers are looking forward to going on this adventure with them. Tell them to just try their best. They are watching our reaction and will respond accordingly. They don't need to add your worries to their own. Let's be kind to each other and our school. If we are excited and positive, they will be too!

Welcome Kinders and New Families: Last but not least, I want to extend a warm welcome to our kindergarten families and new families. I know this is a challenging way to start school and we will be communicating with you directly in the coming week to help you navigate this new frontier. Please watch for an email from your child's teacher!

Materials / Device / Textbook Pick Up Schedule

Below is the student pick up schedule for materials, electronic devices, and textbooks. While on campus you will need to be wearing a mask at all times and maintain social distancing of 6 feet apart. Families will need to exit the campus once their school materials have been picked up. Please limit the amount of family members that come onto campus. iPad / Chromebooks will be picked up in front of the SEAL room (Room 32). Students in grades TK-Kindergarten will require iPads and students grades 1st-6th chromebooks.

Devices are expected to be used appropriately for school-related activities and maintained in the same condition. You will be expected to take full fiscal responsibility for the device including the replacement cost if it is lost or damaged. Below are links to the Technology Loan Agreement.
