Venezia Scaglia, Cadwallader

Did you know that the number one cause of death worldwide is heart complications? That's why our school decided to take action right away and extend our knowledge about having healthy choices, such as having good nutrition and exercising daily. Cadwallader raised awareness and supported Heart Awareness Week throughout February.

Our school got the chance to share this wonderful experience with the entire Evergreen Community. The students got the chance to try out new jump rope moves and earn special "lives saved" duckies. I remember seeing students having fun with their friends and making memorable memories. Sixth grader Amal Shah stated, "It's a really good cause for what it's for. Jump roping makes you fit and Ms. Hill helped my friends learn the new jump rope moves."

It was a splendid opportunity to also commemorate Mr. Cordobes, fellow teacher Mrs. Cordobes' husband and fellow student Abby Cordobes' father, who has been struggling with heart problems recently. Mrs. Cordobes tells us that she is grateful for all the support from the school and her husband and daughter are very happy about the event being dedicated towards him.

Our school surpassed our goal of raising $2,000. We motivated our community to earn a total of $2,280,which is $700 more than we raised last year. The whole community participated and helped by either donating money or just jumping to spread awareness. Everyone's generous contributions will encourage people to donate more money towards the American Heart Association's programs in the future.

I think we all need an everyday inspiration to influence us to make a difference in others lives one step at a time.
