Posted 07/08/2019 01:50PM

August 2019

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back to a brand new school year!It is my sincere hope that you enjoyed your summer with your children and took time to refuel in an effort to prepare for the busy 2019-2020 school year planned. Wow, it seems so strange to say 2020!

As August approaches, one of the things we consider most important is providing a safe and nurturing environment for your children. When we speak of safety, this includes coming to and from school, general safety such as fire drills, and working in partnership with you to empower your children with the necessary skills to respond to conflict and appropriate behavior in and throughout the school. The skills they learn here are designed to prepare them for life beyond the classroom.Last school year, together with our staff, we began our second year of implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). You will receive more information on the details as we roll out our program for students, and we look forward to working with you as our partner for support. The focus is on creating safe, respectful and responsible school through all aspects of your children's life. We live by these three simple rules. The intent is to catch, teach and model students doing the "right" thing. We hope you will partner with us and use these rules at home as well. Please look for more information in your child's agenda and plan on attending one of our PBIS meetings (tbd) that will assist you with the tools to mirror those same strategies at home.

Our schedule remains the same for this next school year.Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten run a full day program. All students will begin their day at 8:30 a.m.

Grades TK/K: 8:30 a.m.-2:20 p.m. (the first 10 days students will be released at 11:50 a.m.)

The parking lot area will be closed to through traffic with the exception of handicapped, school bus and staff vehicles. You are encouraged to walk with your child to school. If you must drive, please be certain to follow all traffic laws and drive slowly in and around the school.Model for your children appropriate safety rules within the neighborhood and be courteous of the neighbors living in and around the school.Cross the street to the school at corners and watch for moving vehicles. Student safety is our number one concern.Eliminating cars driving through the parking lot creates a safer situation for our students, staff and bus riders. Also, please be reminded that the yellow lines at entries to the school are where parents and adults are to stop.Parents are not allowed beyond the yellow lines and/or entry gates without a visitor badge. For the safety of all Dove Hill students, visitors to the campus must check in at the office and wear a visitor's badge at all times when on campus.

Supervision for students begins at 8:15 a.m. Children MAY NOT arrive at school before 8:15 a.m.with the exception of those students receiving breakfast.Breakfast service begins at 8:00 a.m.Students are permitted to purchase breakfast and are to remain in the cafeteria until the 8:15 a.m bell sounds. The supervising teacher will release students to the playground to line up.Supervision of children ends at 3:00 p.m. on regular days and at 1:20 p.m. on Thursdays.Children are not to be on campus after that time unless they are with their parent, under the direct supervision of a teacher, or involved in a school-approved activity.Under no circumstances should children be given instructions to wait at the park for pickup. There is no supervision at the park.
