It is important for our children to learn that we are all connected with responsibilities toward one another and to society. The qualities of generosity, caring, compassion and service to others becomes a strong and integral part of a child's character when he/she is given opportunities and is encouraged to perform both small and large acts of kindness. By teaching children to give generously of their time, talents and treasures, we are helping them build the pillars of character of caring and community service within themselves, As in the past, our school will be participating in a food drive. Students are asked to bring in non-perishable food to be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution to families in need. The canned food drive will begin the week of December 2nd and continue through December 13th. You can help your children experience the joy of giving and learn the importance of stewardship by talking to them about service to others, by helping them select food to donate, and by encouraging your children to give generously. We have received updated ESD food and nutritional guidelines. We have added our guidelines as a school as well. It is extremely important that all parents and teachers follow them to ensure the health of our children. Children with allergies and/or specific diets are placed at risk if we fail to do so. We are no longer allowing parents or other family members to bring birthday treats that they have purchased or made themselves that do not meet state nutritional guidelines such as cupcakes, cookie, etc. To see the entire article please double click on the header.

1. Plan for the conference. Talk to your child. Write down questions. Look at your child's schoolbooks and the work he/she brings home. Think about your child's learning style and study habits. 2. Ask questions about your child's schoolwork, his relationship with students and teachers, and any class or school rules you do not understand. 3. Share any information that might help the teacher develop a better understanding of your child. 4. Decide with the teacher what, if anything, needs to be done to support your child. Agree on plans, responsibilities and future steps before you leave. 5. Follow up. Implement your end of any agreement. Keep in touch with the teacher. If the plans do not seem to be working, or if new problem develops, set another appointment to speak to the teacher.

Parents, this is a gentle reminder that once Dove Hill Students are release from school. They are not to return back to school unless they are in an after-school program. This also includes LeyVA and Silver Creek Students. They may return after the YMCA is over.

As we reach mid way of the school year it is critical that emergency cards be updated with current information. The staff uses these cards to contact parents in the event of an emergency. Moreover, students will only be released to the people listed on the emergency card. If your phone number or addresses changes, please notify the office immediately. If you have already registered with "Parent portal" and have updated your contact information we thank you. We encourage all parents to register on Parent portal at www.eesd.org or on our school web page and click on parent portal.

ABSENCES AND TARDIES Dove Hill conforms to state policies for excused and unexcused absences and tardies. Our district also has a Phone Call-Out system that will call a student's home when he or she is absent. Whether it is an excused or unexcused absence, the system calls to add another layer of accountability in the whereabouts of a student. However, it is still very important that you call us to let us know if your son or daughter is ill so we can mark him or her as an excused absence. TARDIES please do your very best to get your son or daughter to school on time. It is important for him or her to get off to a smooth start. It is also important to their classmates and teachers. Being to school ON TIME is respectful and needed when there are so many students to account for and so much to learn each day. Thank you to all the students who come to school on time every day except when ill.
