Thank you for your child's participation in the
Written Spelling Bee. We had a total of 129 students
participate! It was an amazing turnout. Congratulations to all of
our Written Spelling Bee winners. The winners (primary and
upper) will be awarded at the end of the Oral Spelling Bee on
January 21st. The Oral Spelling Bee starts at 6pm for our
24 Upper Grade Finalists. The finalists have received their permission
slips today. Please return the form as soon as possible.
If you would like to see your child's spelling test,
please drop by the office anytime this week.

the Oral Spelling Bee on January 21st.
Matsumoto's Spelling Bee
2019-2020
The Matsumoto's Spelling Bee, sponsored by PTA, is here! It is open to all students in Grades 1-6. Primary students in Grades 1-3 will have the opportunity to participate in the Written Spelling Bee only. Upper Grade students in Grades 4-6 will have the opportunity to participate in the Written Spelling Bee and advance to the Oral Spelling Bee. All participating students will take the Written Spelling Bee during the school day on Thursday, December 12th.
Top finalists from the Written Spelling Bee will advance to the Oral Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 21st at 6pm. Permission slips will be sent home with qualifying students.
The winner of our school's spelling bee will take a BAY AREA ONLINE TEST between January 23rd and February 7th at school. Based on the results, the top finishers will advance to the 2020 Bay Area Regional Spelling Bee (February 29, 2020 at Amador Theater in Pleasanton). The champion of the 2020 Bay Area Regional Spelling Bee will represent the area at the 2020 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. (date and location TBA).

Study Tips
You may want to consider getting organized for your study of spelling. Start to compile a spelling notebook. Different sections can feature troublesome word endings, homonyms, troublesome double letter spellings, or specialized terms.
You will want to visit the Scripps National Spelling Bee website for tips and information about the Spelling Bee at http://www.spellingbee.com. Click on "Students and Parents" and then "Study Tips." There are a number of options for practice. Be sure to also look at www.spellit.com.
