Applications Being Accepted for Superintendent's School Consolidation Advisory Committee
Posted 11/07/2019 07:25PM

Dear Evergreen Community;

As you are aware, on October 10, 2019, the Evergreen School District Board of Education approved the closure/consolidation of two schools in 2020-21 school year, and a third school in 2021-22 School Year as a part of its fiscal stabilization plan, in order to close a $12 million deficit that is the result of rising costs and declining enrollment. We remain committed to continue to ensure that our schools maintain the level of excellence that our families expect for our students and to support innovative learning in the classroom, so that our students are prepared for a highly competitive global society.

Keeping our community informed and transparency are among our highest priorities during this process. One way this is being accomplished is through our recently launched School Consolidation website, www.eesd.org/schoolconsolidation, which provides answers to frequently asked questions, the history and timeline, and announcements about the school consolidation process, including future community information sessions. Another way that the district will engage our stakeholders is through the formation of a Superintendent's School Consolidation Advisory Committee that will be comprised of parents, members of the community, and Evergreen bargaining unit representatives.

Superintendent's School Consolidation Advisory Committee Responsibilities
We are seeking thoughtful and committed community members who will work collaboratively and proactively to review the district's demography, school enrollment, and make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees around the school consolidation and timeline. We expect this committee to begin meeting on November 20, 2019, and complete its work by April, 29, 2020, for a total of eight meetings.

Superintendent's School Consolidation Advisory Committee Application
The Evergreen School District is committed to both inclusion and transparency in this process and to that end, the committee's proceedings and deliberations will be open to the public and all minutes and recordings will be published on our district's School Consolidation webpage. If you are interested in serving on this committee to examine this important issue,
please review and complete the following application by November 12, 2019:

This committee will meet from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Evergreen School District Office, Teacher Center, Education Services Building, 3188 Quimby Rd., San Jose, on the following dates:

  • January 8, 15, 22

Sincerely,

Dr. Emy Flores, Superintendent
