Evergreen School District Board of Trustees Announces Deborah Ashmore
as New Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services

SAN JOSE, CA – The Evergreen School District Board of Trustees has appointed Mrs. Deborah Ashmore to the position of Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services of Evergreen School District subject to ratification of the employment agreement at the July 9, 2020 Board of Trustees Regular Meeting.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Leila Welch, Board President, stated "Evergreen School District is excited for Mrs. Deborah Ashmore to join Evergreen School District as Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services. Mrs. Ashmore clearly has the experience and the desire to lead Educational Services. We look forward to her joining our leadership team."

Dr. Emy Flores, Superintendent stated, "We are thrilled to have Mrs. Ashmore join our Evergreen family. Her knowledge, experience and expertise are great assets and will serve our learning community well. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to her."

Deborah Ashmore has been an educator since 1990. She has been a classroom teacher, a literacy coach, a professional development coordinator and consultant, a principal, director, and an Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.

Over the course of her career, she has been proud of various accomplishments; most notably she co-created and established a professional development center called the California Center for Literacy Development modeled after the Public Education and Business Coalition, providing support in the area of reading comprehension and early literacy frameworks. She has also worked on establishing lab classrooms focusing on professional development for Guided Language and Acquisition Design (GLAD). Partnering with the Equal Opportunity Schools organization, Mrs. Ashmore has helped to mirror the diversity of the community so that it is reflected in the most rigorous courses offered. She is motivated by pursuing equity in the public education system and is committed to ensuring equitable practices impact actions in classrooms across the district for every learner.

Mrs. Ashmore is thrilled to be back in the area she was raised in attending Valley Vista Elementary, August Boeger Middle School and an alumnus from Mount Pleasant High School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from California State University Hayward, as well as a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.
